Apple Pie Smoothie

Here’s another of my smoothie recipes as promised. This apple pie smoothie tastes just as good as apple pie but takes only a few minutes to prepare and is significantly healthier. So if you have an apple pie craving but don’t have time to bake, or are watching your calories, then this is for you.

This smoothie contains loads of healthy stuff. The apple goes towards your 5 a day and creates the base of the flavour, the nut butter is full of healthy fats and minerals and creates the ‘crust’, milk gives you protein and calcium, and chia or flax seeds give you antioxidants, healthy fats and minerals.

And the spices? Well…they give you apple pie.

It’s important to get the amount of spice you add correct. In regular apple pie the spices are obviously hot. This heat intensifies the flavour. As the smoothie is consumed cold you may find you need more than you expect – you don’t want to miss out do you? I’ve given you a rough measurement but a good rule of thumb is to start with less – you can always add more if you need to. Just add a little, whizz, taste and keep going until delicious apple pie perfection is reached. I find it easiest to measure the spices by scooping a little heap on to the end of the handle of my teaspoon. You get good at eyeballing it after a while.

To make this yummy deliciousness all you do is put everything into your blender or smoothie maker and whizz it up until smooth and creamy. Take the lid off and breathe in deeply. Who would have thought you could get your apple pie fix so easily??

This recipe makes two small smoothies, or one large one if you don’t want to share it.
